CEFROM Aventis Pharma
Drug Category: Cephalosporin.
Generic Name: Cefpirome.
Contents: Inj 1gm: Cefpirome (as sulphate) 1gm;
powder in vials.
Indications: Infections of the lower respiratory tract, skin and soft tissues, complicated upper and lower UT infections, Neutrogena, becteraemia, septicaemia.
Dosage: Adults: 1-2gm every 12 hrs by IV bolus over 3-5 mins. or by IV infusion over 20-30 mins. Children: Not recommended.
Contra-Ind: Pregnancy, lactation.
Precautions: Renal impairment. Elderly. Hypersensitivity to betalactam antibiotics.
Interactions: Aminoglycosides, loop diuretics.
Adverse effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, raised liver enzymes and creatinine, blood dyscrasias, injection site reactions, taste disturbance, hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely super infections. pseudo membranous colitis, interstitial nephritis.
